Lessons for June 3, 2007 – Holy Trinity Sunday The first lesson Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31 Listen as wisdom calls out! Hear as understanding raises her voice! [2] She stands on the hilltop and at the crossroads. [3] At the entrance to the city, at the city gates, she cries aloud, [4] "I call to you, to all of you! I am raising my voice to all people. "The Lord formed me from the beginning, before he created anything else. [23] I was appointed in ages past, at the very first, before the earth began. [24] I was born before the oceans were created, before the springs bubbled forth their waters. [25] Before the mountains and the hills were formed, I was born— [26] before he had made the earth and fields and the first handfuls of soil. [27] "I was there when he established the heavens, when he drew the horizon on the oceans. [28] I was there when he set the clouds above, when he established the deep fountains of the earth. [29] I was there when he set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries. And when he marked off the earth's foundations, [30] I was the architect at his side. I was his constant delight, rejoicing always in his presence. [31] And how happy I was with what he created—his wide world and all the human family! (NLT) Psalm 8 L. O Lord, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth! C. Your glory is higher than the heavens. L. You have taught children and nursing infants to give you praise. C. They silence your enemies who were seeking revenge. L. When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— C. the moon and the stars you have set in place— L. what are mortals that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us? C. For you made us only a little lower than God, and you crowned us with glory and honor. L. You put us in charge of everything you made, giving us authority over all things— C. the sheep and the cattle and all the wild animals, L. the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents. C. O Lord, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth! (NLT) The second lesson Romans 5:1-5 Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. [2] Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory. [3] We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to endure. [4] And endurance develops strength of character in us, and character strengthens our confident expectation of salvation. [5] And this expectation will not disappoint us. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. (NLT) The Gospel Lesson John 16:12-15 "Oh, there is so much more I want to tell you, but you can't bear it now. [13] When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not be presenting his own ideas; he will be telling you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. [14] He will bring me glory by revealing to you whatever he receives from me. [15] All that the Father has is mine; this is what I mean when I say that the Spirit will reveal to you whatever he receives from me. (NLT)
