Numbers 11:24-30 So Moses went out and reported the Lord's words to the people. Then he gathered the seventy leaders and stationed them around the Tabernacle. 25And the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. He took some of the Spirit that was upon Moses and put it upon the seventy leaders. They prophesied as the Spirit rested upon them, but that was the only time this happened. 26Two men, Eldad and Medad, were still in the camp when the Spirit rested upon them. They were listed among the leaders but had not gone out to the Tabernacle, so they prophesied there in the camp. 27A young man ran and reported to Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!" 28Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses' personal assistant since his youth, protested, "Moses, my master, make them stop!" 29But Moses replied, "Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them all!" 30Then Moses returned to the camp with the leaders of Israel. (NLT) Psalm 104:25-35 L. Here is the ocean, vast and wide, teeming with life of every kind, both great and small. C. See the ships sailing along, and Leviathan, which you made to play in the sea. L. Every one of these depends on you to give them their food as they need it. C. When you supply it, they gather it. L. You open your hand to feed them, and they are satisfied. C. But if you turn away from them, they panic. L. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. C. When you send your Spirit, new life is born to replenish all the living of the earth. L. May the glory of the Lord last forever! The Lord rejoices in all he has made! C. The earth trembles at his glance; the mountains burst into flame at his touch. L. I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. C. I will praise my God to my last breath! L. May he be pleased by all these thoughts about him, for I rejoice in the Lord. C. Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; let the wicked disappear forever. L. As for me—I will praise the Lord! (NLT) The second lesson 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13 No one speaking by the Spirit of God can curse Jesus, and no one is able to say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 4Now there are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. 5There are different kinds of service in the church, but it is the same Lord we are serving. 6There are different ways God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work through all of us. 7A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church. 8To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another he gives the gift of special knowledge. 9The Spirit gives special faith to another, and to someone else he gives the power to heal the sick. 10He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and to another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to know whether it is really the Spirit of God or another spirit that is speaking. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, and another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. 12The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up only one body. So it is with the body of Christ. 13Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into Christ's body by one Spirit, and we have all received the same Spirit. (NLT) The Gospel Lesson John 20:19-23 19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."
